Redesigning a PowerPoint Presentation
Here we gonna take a quick look at the process of designing and updating the PowerPoint presentation.
Things to know before starting:
• Goal of the presentation (informational, sales pitch, educational, etc.)
• Audience (certain professionals, age group, interest, etc)
• Style guide or any direction regarding the use of existing company style / colours / templates / assets
After receiving the initial deck and the brief from the client, i normally go through the outline and organize the slides into the flow that i think presents the information best.
This will help keep various slides visually consistent and divide up the information in a way that’s easy to follow for the audience.
I not a believer into starting the project with a template first. After all, the content is what should drive the look and feel of the presentation deck, not the preset templates.
As such, I start creating rough graphics and layout of the slides first.
The goal is to have the information presented on a slide in a easy to understand, clean, and easy to follow way. The polishing and details and other visual bling comes afterwards.
So here are some before and after screenshots of the recent presentation:
Original Cover
Original Agenda Slide, very bullet-y
Initial Intro Slide
Category Slide
Category Slide - has a totally different look
Information Slide - too busy and illegible
Another info slide, looks like been pulled from a different presentation
Edited Cover: New Image, Prominent Product Title
Updated Agenda slide - Straight to the point
Updated Intro Slide - Starting to Establish the style and look
Updated Category Slide - Style Established
Edited Category Slide - consistent look and feel
Simplified and clean Information Slide
Edited info slide - consistent with the deck, yet still shows some variety
