Research Program portal design
Redesigning the participant portal for a large-scale, long-term medical research study program.
A new dashboard - colorful and inviting
Redesigned tiles, updated color palette and a new style to add more vibrant and welcoming feel to the portal.
The research program is a long-term study with the goal of recruiting a million or more participants around the country to help build a diverse health database. Researchers will study and use the data to develop better treatments and disease prevention.
Participants take a series of surveys and answer questions, build their profiles, submit physical measurements and samples, share activity data from their wearable devices and much more.

The portal structure
Helps establish high level user flows and create a consistent experience
The Style
The new design language for the portal has been created with accessibility and usability in mind.
User Registration
The whole registration flow has been streamlined and simplified for better and faster user onboarding - introduction of the features like a Progress bar, updated input fields, and account verification help move the registration process forward.
Surveys and Questionnaires
The surveys are an integral part of the portal - this is how most of the data is collected.
Most of the surveys and consent documents are fairly long, with a lot of videos and questionnaires. Current integration of the surveys was not very user-friendly - people had no way of telling where they were during the survey process, and didn’t have a clear sense of progress.
The introduction of a “Pages“ feature helps users see their progress and help with better orientation in this large surveys.
